The Pier 2 Pier Beach Clean is looking for 1 or 2 volunteer interns to become part of their core team and help them to grow their small community group into an influential social enterprise. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build an organisation from the ground-up, use their creativity to generate new ideas and take on their own portfolio of projects.

The volunteer coordinator(s) will assist the beach clean, marketing and fundraising teams, and will work closely with the director. More details below:

Beach cleans and events

  • Assist beach clean team in organising monthly silent disco beach clean events (book supplies, liaise with the council and Seafront Office, write risk assessments etc.).

  • Reach out to companies, sports groups, festivals, community groups, schools to generate new beach clean bookings and opportunities.

  • Help us come up with new beach clean theme ideas!


  • Assist marketing team.

  • Send event invitations to bloggers and media, and build up our contact list.

  • Update the website.

  • Write copy for promotional material.


  • Assist fundraising team with grant applications, crowdfunding and sourcing corporate sponsorship.

  • Work with the marketing team to promote our fundraising goals and drive donations.


  • Respond to email enquiries

  • Respond to Facebook enquiries

  • Arrange meetings

  • Provide administrative support

In return the successful candidate will gain

  • Essential training from the Pier 2 Pier team which is made up of professional event organisers, marketing managers and fundraisers.

  • Valuable experience in event planning, marketing and fundraising within a non-profit organisation.

  • Useful contacts in Brighton and around the UK.

  • Opportunities to learn about local marine conservation and plastic pollution first hand.

The ideal candidate will possess the following

  • Some experience working with a non-profit organisation

  • An interest in environment and/or marine conservation

  • Some experience in event planning, marketing and/or fundraising

  • Adequate computer skills

  • Good customer service

  • A pro-active attitude

This is an unpaid 6-month programme for 1-2 days per week starting in April, and travel expenses to events or meetings will be reimbursed. The volunteer coordinator(s) will meet regularly with the director but most of their work should be carried out from home (candidates must have their own computer to work from).
